What to know about over-the-counter "GLP-1" supplements
Not the same thing: While you may see over-the-counter patches, gummies, or supplements marketed with the term "GLP-1," these products do not contain the actual active pharmaceutical ingredients found in prescription GLP-1 drugs.
Lack of FDA approval: These supplements aren't evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for safety or effectiveness.
Often contain other ingredients: These products may contain herbs or other substances, such as berberine, -none- proven to replicate the effects of prescription GLP-1 medications.
Misleading claims: Unregulated companies exploit the popularity of GLP-1 drugs and ride the trend. Don't fall for it.
You don’t have to go through telehealth. If you have a trusted provider, you can absolutely advocate for yourself:
Come Prepared
Bring your BMI, medical history, and any relevant labs - detail fatigue, joint pain, or insulin resistance and any metabolic issues. Know your why.
Say something like:
"I’d like to discuss whether GLP-1 medication could be a good fit for my long-term health goals."
You’re not asking for a favor — you’re advocating for care. It's called informed, self-advocacy.
Doctors may raise concerns about cost, safety, or long-term use.
Show them you’ve done your homework and are committed to slow dosing, monitoring, and lifestyle changes.
Ask for a referral — or find a new provider. Inside The GLP-1 Nest, we share scripts, success stories, and support to help you through it. 🪺
